PATH is a comprehensive group of individuals who strive hard to ensure the well-being and safety of the communities we serve. As a group that is passionate about the wellness of our fellow African brothers and sisters, we aim to give them the best services possible to help them live their lives to the fullest. PATH is also keen on educating and inspiring men, women, and children all over the DMV area and Africa so that they can be properly guided on their path toward a brighter and healthier life. We are a foundation that has been in activity for as early as twenty (20) years ago. Over the years, we have also formed lasting bonds and partnerships with various allies to achieve the mission and vision of our foundation.
PATH ensures to help our African communities in the DMV area to break free from unhealthy habits and practices. Oftentimes, our foundation encounters individuals who are struggling with substance abuse, multiple sexual activities, an unhealthy lifestyle, alcohol, and being overworked due to struggling with making ends meet. This greatly results to them being stressed, being unaware of health programs, unable to access healthcare, and more.
We are a public and social wellness organization founded on the principles of equal and sustainable physical, emotional, mental, and general health and wellness for all.
We aim to cater to the health and general wellbeing of our families and communities, with efforts rooted in the pursuit of adequate and equitable access and utilization of needed health, social, and mental services by and for all.
In recognition of the disproportionate burdens of diseases, ill-health, poverty, unawareness, illiteracy, and functional illiteracy; domestic violence and physical abuse; sexual violence, teen and unplanned pregnancy; elder and child neglect and abuse; the juxtaposition of overwork, poverty, and poor physical health; poor diet, nutrition, and obesity; among others, in our communities, we are committed to meaningfully enhancing our engagement and working with the members of the community of recent African ancestry and African-Americans, in general, in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area, thus addressing and sustainably alleviating these issues and burdens!
That is why, to counter this problem, PATH and its community outreach programs in Alexandria, Virginia, aim to do the following:
- Organize
- Collaborate
- Coordinate
- Community resource pooling (here) and [re]distribution (here and in Africa)
- Event planning and oversight (weddings, funerals, parties, socialization, etc.)
- Reconciliation, arbitration, and social support
We also seek to educate our communities with the following to aid with their renewed perspective and direction in life:
- Sexual health and well-being (STIs, HIV, Others)
- Mental and psychosocial health and well-being
- Substance abuse and dependency
- Domestic violence and sexual abuse
- Obesity and related chronic diseases and conditions (ex. Diabetes, HTN, etc.)
